 y the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Association for the Sciences o
 f Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), and The Oceanography Society(TOS), wi
 ll be held 11&ndash\;16 February, in Portland, Oregon. The OSM is an impor
 tant venue for scientific exchange across broad marine science disciplines
 . Sessions will include all aspects of oceanography, especially multidisci
 plinary topics, as well as presentations that reflect new and emerging res
 earch on the global ocean and society, including science education, outrea
 ch, and public policy. The OSM originated in 1982 as a joint effort betwee
 n AGU and ASLO\; TOS joined as a regular co-sponsor in 2004.\nIncreasing e
 vidence of multiple human impacts on the oceans makes this a critical time
  for the largest international assembly of ocean scientists, engineers, st
 udents, educators, policy makers, and other stakeholders to gather and sha
 re their results on research, application of research, and education. What
  better place to hold the meeting than Portland, Oregon&rsquo\;s largest c
 ity? Portland sits on the Columbia and Willamette rivers, in the shadow of
